Flash track of the day: Kate Bush 'Top Of The City'
At the top, 'The Hounds Of Love' and 'Aerial' battle it out for the title of best album from this god-like woman from England who, of course, has never come close to making a bad album. But on place 3 for me is clearly 'The Red shoes' from 1993, probably because I borrowed the tape from the library at that time and took it into my heart.
The tape from the library
When I was 13 years old, I borrowed this album on tape from the library of our village and listened to it continuously. I have extended the loan period several times. This cassette meant the world to me. "The Red Shoes" was my access to her music and I fell in love with her voice and with this woman. ❤ The album is considered rather weak within her whole catalogue, but for me it will always have a big place in my heart and soul. Her music gave me endless strength and hope back then and when I listen to the album today (and I'm about as old as Kate when she made this album), many songs have new meanings for me. It's probably her most torn album, at the same time it's very accessible and varied.
I had the chance to see Kate live in London in 2014 and I never dreamed that she would play two songs from "The Red Shoes". To hear "Top Of The City" live, besides all the highlights of that evening, was extremely overwhelming for me personally and it felt as if she had sung the song only for the 13 year old boy in me. An unforgettable experience. 🙌
