Genesis - Duke (1980)

Patrick Bateman, the iconic serial killer from American Psycho, had this to say about Genesis' masterful 10th LP, moments before filming two prostitutes have kinky sex: "Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent." (quoted from @stereogum) ✌ I know, it's a bit weird to take Bateman as a spokesman, but I look at it quite similar when it comes to Genesis. 🎭

I would say, Duke is my favourite Genesis album. It has the perfect mélange of the old prog vibe and the catchy pop tunes that took the group to the big arenas during the 80ies and 90ies. 🏟 I've listened to them a lot when I was a kid. And to this album by far the most. And I still adore the artwork. This record was part of my dad's record collection. Now it's mine. And I think Phil Collins is the main reason why I've started to play the drums. His style of playing and especially the attack in his strokes is distinctive and something I still aim for. 🥁
